Sounds made here

Made from these words on this page. Describe yours above.

How it works

  1. Describe the sound. "a forest at night with crickets, an owl and wind in the trees". Say what it is, where, and how it feels, with no music in it. Or pick an idea under the box.
  2. Pick a length. Up to 30 seconds: shorter for a single hit, longer for an ambience.
  3. Get your sound. Play it, download it as an MP3 or a WAV. Ask for music instead and you get a song, with its stems. Nothing to switch.

Build a place from its layers

A believable place has a bed and some detail. The bed is the steady sound you stop noticing: wind, traffic hum, a fridge, the sea. The detail is what happens now and then: a bird, a cup set down, a car door. Name both in your description, and say how busy the place is.

  • Bed: "low wind", "distant traffic", "air conditioning hum".
  • Detail: "an occasional crow", "cups clinking now and then".
  • Busy or still: "nearly empty", "packed and loud".

Keep it under the dialogue

Ambience is there to say where we are, not to compete. In a game or a video, play it low under dialogue and let it rise a little when no one is speaking. Steady beds with few sharp sounds are easier to sit under a voice. Ask for "soft", "distant" or "muted" when you know a scene will be talky.

Making it last

Each ambience is one stereo take up to 30 seconds, as an MP3 or a WAV. To cover a longer scene or a game level, loop it in your engine or editor with a short crossfade. Make two or three takes of the same place and rotate them, and the repeat is much harder to hear. For music that loops on its own, use the loop generator.

Questions

Can I put ambience and music together?

Make each separately and lay them together in your editor or engine. Keep the music a little lower than you'd think; the ambience fills out the space.

What makes a good game level bed?

One steady sound and few sharp events, like "wind through a canyon with faint distant rocks falling", so it can loop without anything standing out.

Does the ambience loop?

It comes as one take up to 30 seconds, not a seamless loop. For a longer bed, loop it in your editor or game engine with a short crossfade. For music that repeats without a click, describe music and leave Seamless loop on.

Can I add music over it?

Make the music here too: describe it and you get a song with its stems, royalty-free on the same credits. Lay the ambience under it in your editor.

Can I use the music in a commercial game or video?

Yes. Every song is royalty-free on every plan, Free included: use it in commercial games, videos, streams, podcasts and apps.

How much does a sound effect cost?

The same as a song: 5 a month are free with a Daydream account, then 5¢ a song after that, in credit packs from $3 (60 songs). Credits never expire, and the API and the MCP server spend the same ones.

Can I use it in Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. Add https://gen.daydream.live/mcp as a custom connector in Claude, or as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT, or add the Daydream app from ChatGPT's directory, and sign in with your Daydream account. Then describe a song in the chat: it plays there with its stems in their own lanes, and if you ask for new drums it makes that part again with the other four as they are. It spends the same credits as this page, 5 a song. How to add it.
