This is an example. Describe your own above and it comes like this too: solo a part, redo one, download them, or edit it in Studio.

Songs made here

Made from these words on this page, each with its stems. Move a level, or press M or S, to hear a part on its own.

How it works

  1. Start from the words in the box. "an epic boss battle theme with pounding taiko, low brass, a dark choir and fast minor-key strings". Change any of them, or pick an idea under the box.
  2. Pick the shape. Seamless loop is on, for music that repeats without a click. Pick a tempo, a key and a length, or leave them on Auto.
  3. Get your track with its stems. Play it, download the mix or the stems, or open it in Studio to change the parts.

A boss is a set piece, not an encounter

Regular battle music is heard a hundred times in short bursts. A boss theme is heard once or twice, for several minutes, at the moment the game has been building to. That changes what you ask for. It can be bigger, slower to start and more dramatic than anything else on the soundtrack, because nobody has to live with it for hours.

  • Weight: taiko, timpani, low brass, choir, distorted bass. Pick the two or three that suit the boss rather than all of them.
  • Character: describe the boss, not just the fight. "A rotting tree god" gets you something different from "a rival swordsman".
  • Key: a minor key and a tempo set by hand, so every phase can share them.

Turn on Seamless loop. A boss fight runs as long as the player needs, and the theme has to keep going without a seam.

Phases from one theme

Most bosses change partway through, and the music should change with them without starting over. Every track comes as five stems (drums, bass, guitar, keys and other), lined up and adding up to the mix, so one theme can carry a whole fight.

  • Phase one: bass, keys and other. The melody is there, the floor isn't shaking yet.
  • Phase two: bring in the drums and guitar on a bar line. Same tune, twice the threat.
  • Last stand: switch to a second track in the same key at a higher tempo, described as more frantic.

If one part is wrong (the guitar too bright for a dark boss, say), make that stem again and keep the rest.

Intro, loop, and what comes after

A boss usually gets three cues. A short intro with loop off for the reveal, the looping theme for the fight, and a victory fanfare in the same key so the last hit resolves. The game music generator page has more on keeping a soundtrack in one key.

Questions

Can a boss intro run straight into the fight loop?

Yes, if both share a key and a tempo. Make the intro with Seamless loop off and end it on the beat, then start the loop on the next bar line.

How big should a boss theme be compared to the rest of the game?

The biggest thing on the soundtrack, but not on every boss. Save the choir and full drums for the bosses that matter most and give mid-game bosses a smaller version of the same sound.

How do I score a boss with two or three phases?

Keep one key for the whole fight. Play phase one with some of the stems, bring in the rest for phase two, and make a faster, heavier track in the same key for the last stretch, so each step sounds like the same fight getting worse.

Can I use the music in a commercial game or video?

Yes. Every song is royalty-free on every plan, Free included: use it in commercial games, videos, streams, podcasts and apps.

Can I use it in Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. Add https://gen.daydream.live/mcp as a custom connector in Claude, or as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT, or add the Daydream app from ChatGPT's directory, and sign in with your Daydream account. Then describe a song in the chat: it plays there with its stems in their own lanes, and if you ask for new drums it makes that part again with the other four as they are. It spends the same credits as this page, 5 a song. How to add it.
